Use of service

chess.video is a free web application and iOS app that converts chess PGN game notation into MP4 video files. You may use it to generate videos of your own chess games or games you have permission to share.

We provide chess.video free of charge and reserve the right to modify, limit, or discontinue any feature at any time without prior notice. We will make reasonable efforts to communicate significant changes, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of the service.

An account is not required to use the core video generation feature. You may create a free account to save your generation history and unlock additional output options.

Acceptable use

You agree to use chess.video in a manner consistent with its intended purpose. The following uses are prohibited:

• Abusing the video rendering API through automated bulk requests, scripted loops, or any activity that places an unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
• Attempting to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract data from our rendering pipeline or internal APIs beyond what is exposed for normal use.
• Using the service to generate content that violates applicable law or the rights of third parties.
• Attempting to circumvent rate limits, Turnstile bot protection, or any other access controls.

Content and ownership

Your PGN and chess games: You retain full ownership of any chess games and PGN notation you submit to chess.video. We do not claim any rights over your input data.

Generated videos: Videos generated by chess.video from your PGN are yours to use freely — for personal sharing, social media, YouTube, educational content, or any other lawful purpose. We make no copyright claims over videos you generate using our service.

Published games: chess.video allows you to generate videos from publicly available games fetched via the Lichess and Chess.com APIs. Chess moves and game scores are generally not copyrightable. It is your responsibility to comply with the terms of service of those platforms and to respect any rights attached to game commentary or annotations you include.

Our visual assets: The piece sets, board themes, and other visual assets provided within the chess.video interface may be subject to their respective open-source licenses (such as those of the Lichess piece sets). These assets are provided for use within the service.

Disclaimer

chess.video is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Video generation depends on GPU rendering infrastructure that may experience downtime or delays.

We do not guarantee that videos stored on our CDN will remain available indefinitely. Generated videos are retained for 90 days and are then deleted. Download and save any videos you wish to keep permanently.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, chess.video and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service, including loss of data or generated content. Our total liability in connection with the service shall not exceed the amount you paid to use it in the twelve months preceding the claim (which, for free users, is zero).

Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of France, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of chess.video shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of France, unless applicable consumer protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
